Laoshan Black Tea (2 oz loose leaf)

We were able to get some of the lovely August 2022 harvest!  This is one of my favorite black teas.  This relatively new tea is fed by sweet mountain spring water and oxidized in the sun for three days before finishing to bring out signature chocolate notes. Mr. He perfected this tea as a proud reflection of the bold Shandong spirit and the perseverance of Laoshan Village. Laoshan Black is a labor of love to prove to the world how wonderful teas from Northern China can be. The He Family's tea plants have begun to recover from the bitter cold of early 2016. The body is light and smooth, without astringency

Ingredients:  Chinese Black tea

2 oz loose leaf packaged in a stand up resealable pouch

Preparation recommendation::

Water Temperature: 212 F degrees
Caffeine Content: Medium
Steep Time: 40 seconds, adding 10-15 seconds per re-steep
Suggested Serving Size: 1 tsp/8oz

From our friends at Verdant Tea - How to make a concentrated tea shot recipe:

Using a two to three ounce cup, add three teaspoons of tea, and fill with 175 degree water, steeping for 2-3 minutes.  For green teas, use 160 degree water and steep for 2-3 minutes.  The cooler water and longer steep time will allow you to get a potent brew without the tea going bitter.  After steeping, pour the tea through a strainer into another cup to stop the infusion, and cool in the refrigerator or an ice bath.  You can make a bigger concentrate using the same proportions and store it in a bottle to make fun summer drinks like tea sodas and cocktails.  For example, to fill up a 16 ounce container with concentrate, use about sixteen teaspoons of tea, and steep for 2-3 minutes.

Concentrated tea shots can be used in cooking quite easily.  Try replacing some of the water when making rice with concentrated tea for a tea flavored rice, add a concentrated pu’er to a soup stock, or an oolong to a citrus salad dressing.
